Description:

As the government agency responsible for regulating capital raising, securities trading, and investor protection in B.C., the British Columbia Securities Commission expects small businesses using the private placement market to conduct their financings in a way that respects and promotes market integrity. At the same time, we want to help them find legitimate ways to raise money in a timely and efficient manner and avoid delays that can stem from not understanding how things work.

BCSC staff used a case study during a presentation hosted by the Vancouver Broad of Trade’s Small Business Council Success Series that:

  • Clarified how raising money from private investors differs from raising money in public markets.
  • Detailed when securities law applies to your business and identified the laws.
  • Explained how securities law facilitates efficient and timely financings.
  • And, pointed out useful resources for business owners and professionals.
