Vancouver - The British Columbia Securities Commission is pleased to announce the Capital Ideas 2008 panel that will be in Vancouver to discuss the challenges 21st century investors face with the new reality of today's tumultuous financial markets.

At the Oct. 21, 2008 conference, the BCSC will also release new national research that measures the impact of Canada's aging population on investor attitudes, particularly expectations regarding return on investment and appetite for risk. The panel discussion will focus on the research findings, as well as issues related to the securities system and how it can help investors meet the challenges they face in a complex financial reality.

Doug Hyndman, BCSC chair, will host the event and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Ian Hanomansing will moderate an open dialogue between a panel of international and Canadian experts:

  • David Agnew, Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments
  • Tom Bradley, President, Steadyhand Investment Funds and former President and CEO of Phillips, Hager and North, a large asset manager
  • Greg Lyle, Managing Director, Innovative Research. In addition to leading the CSA investor research in 2006 and 2007, Innovative Research is leading the research that will be released at the conference
  • Delia Rickard, Senior Executive for Consumers and Retail Investors, Australian Securities and Investments Commission
