Vancouver – Chinese investors have a newly translated resource to help them make informed investment decisions and learn how to choose and work with an investment advisor.

The B.C. Securities Commission has translated its popular InvestRight Guide to Investing: How to make informed investment decisions, into Chinese as part of its ongoing efforts to reach out to ethnic communities with its investor education programs. It is available free online at InvestRight.org.

“While no one is immune to investment fraud, we know that cultural, ethnic and religious groups in British Columbia have been targets,” says BCSC Chair Brenda Leong. “The Chinese community is the largest ethnic group in the Lower Mainland, so translating this resource was important to provide greater access for this investor group to information that may help them avoid unsuitable investing and investment fraud.”

The InvestRight Guide provides investors with practical information about investment basics: how to research and choose an investment advisor; the responsibilities and expectations in working with an advisor; and how to research investment products. It also shows investors how to find out if an advisor is registered and how to use the Disciplined Persons List.

The guide also includes a chapter on investing in private companies with information about what people need to know when considering these types of investments. Worksheets support each chapter, making the guide easy for investors to use as a research and planning tool.

“Investors told us that there is a strong need for more information in various ethnic languages to help them make informed investment decisions,” says Leong. “This translated guide bolsters our online Chinese language investor education materials and complements the commission’s ongoing efforts to reach more ethnic communities. We plan to add resources in other languages in the near future.”

The B.C. Securities Commission is the independent provincial government agency responsible for regulating trading in securities within the province. If you have questions about the InvestRight Guide to Investing, please contact Ken Gracey, media relations, 604-899-6577.
