B.C. SECURITIES COMMISSION’S FINANCIAL LITERACY TOUR COMES TO CAMPBELL RIVER

Vancouver - The British Columbia Securities Commission's financial literacy tour highlights the importance of educating today's young people about personal finance. Patricia Bowles, BCSC Director, Communications and Education, will speak to educators, students, parents and other members of the public about the need of teaching youth financial life skills on Tuesday, May 01, 2007 in Campbell River.

The BCSC invites members of the media to attend the seminar to learn more about its investor education program that helps develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes to help young people navigate within today's complex financial world. Media can also arrange for interviews with Patricia Bowles after the seminar by contacting the BCSC in advance.

The BCSC's financial literacy program toolkit includes The City: Financial Life Skills, a free, comprehensive and easy-to-use teaching resource that supports the Finances component of Planning 10. The BCSC's InvestRight.org website, a RED-FLAGS.ca website, and a proactive investor-warning program are the other tools that support people in different stages of their investing lives.

InvestRight is the BCSC's one-stop resource for investors to educate themselves on how to make informed investment decisions. Its website at www.InvestRight.org provides a wide range of tools to help investors develop the critical thinking skills they need to protect themselves, including investor alerts and watches. The BCSC's RED-FLAGS communications campaign alerts investors to common sales pitches used by scam artists along with a province-wide seminar program.
