Vancouver – The B.C. Securities Commission is back on the road this fall with a series of free seminars warning investors throughout the province about investment frauds and scams.

“Once again this fall, we are giving our popular seminar ‘Investigate before you invest’ to over 35 groups throughout B.C. in partnership with credit unions, seniors and youth groups,” says BCSC Chair Doug Hyndman.

Starting this week, representatives from the securities commission will be in Parksville and Fort St. John. Next week, seminars are slated for Nanaimo and Burnaby.

The seminars will show people how to protect themselves and their investments from frauds and unscrupulous salespeople. Learn how to identify an investment scam, how to check out the background of a financial adviser and how to determine if an investment is suitable for your circumstances.

“Our goal is to give as many British Columbians as possible the opportunity to hear and learn about how to protect themselves and safeguard their life's savings,” says Hyndman.

“Each year the BCSC hears from people who bought investments that were sold with misleading information. We want to give you the knowledge and tools to prevent that from happening to you.”

The B.C. Securities Commission is the independent provincial government agency responsible for regulating trading in securities and exchange contracts within B.C. Check the commission’s website (www.bcsc.bc.ca) for a list of seminars coming to your area.
