Calgary, Alberta -The Calgary Chinese Cultural Society is pleased to announce the launch of a new online resource for Chinese immigrants interested in learning about investing in the Canadian market.
This online Investor Education Program for Chinese Immigrants is presented in video format in English, Mandarin and Cantonese and is accessible for free 24 hours a day, seven days a week on the World Wide Web.
"This innovative and exciting program will allow immigrants to learn about the Canadian capital market in the comfort of their homes, at the pace that suits them best. From our positive experience with the Chinese Immigrant Orientation Program, we believe that this program will be especially effective at helping to prevent investment fraud among Chinese immigrants to Canada." says Dr. K.W. Chang, President of the Calgary Chinese Cultural Society.
Six online video segments focus on important investor education messages such as understanding the Canadian capital market, the basics of investing, how to choose a financial adviser and how to avoid investment fraud.
The modules contain a wealth of expert information and can be viewed in any order, giving the learner enhanced flexibility and efficiency as compared to other educational delivery methods such as textbooks, seminars or brochures. The multilingual video programs, downloadable print material and key Internet links also enhance the relevancy of the learning experience for the Chinese-speaking community.
This program is funded by the Alberta Capital Market Foundation, the British Columbia Securities Commission and the Investor Education Fund of Ontario. While active with investor education initiatives in their own provinces, this sponsorship is the first time the three funding organizations have entered into a joint project that benefits investors across Canada.
The Calgary Chinese Cultural Society worked with eBridge Learning Solutions Inc. of Calgary to develop the online videos. These videos are available through links from all the organizations’ websites as well as www.ciop.ca (link no longer operational).
