Brenda J. Benham has been appointed Director of the Policy & Legislation Division of the British Columbia Securities Commission. The division advises the Commission on policy matters, and coordinates the development of legislative and policy proposals for regulating the securities market in the province.
Ms. Benham obtained her law degree from the University of Toronto in 1981 and practiced law with Farris, Vaughan, Wills and Murphy in Vancouver from 1982 to 1989, largely in the area of securities law. She joined the Commission in September 1989 as a Policy Advisor and more recently has been an Acting Director of the Policy and Legislation Division.
"Ms. Benham has earned the respect of the industry and the staff", said Doug Hyndman, Commission Chair. "Her practical experience, combined with her extensive knowledge of securities legislation and policy, make her an ideal candidate to head this division."
The Securities Commission is an independent agency of the provincial government agency responsible for regulating trading in securities and exchange contracts.
