Vancouver – A North Vancouver man has paid $135,000 to the B.C. Securities Commission (BCSC) and agreed to a temporary market ban after he admitted to facilitating trades of approximately $12 million worth of investments without being registered.
Tajkarim Mohamed entered into agreements with two issuers in which he would receive finder’s fees for introducing investors to the issuers.
Mohamed earned approximately $111,000 in cash and about $647,820 in shares as compensation for facilitating 66 distributions of securities. He has since returned all the shares he received as compensation to the issuers.
Mohamed was not registered under B.C.’s Securities Act to perform activities like referring prospective investors, facilitating investments and acting as an intermediary.
The North Vancouver resident earned some of the compensation and entered into some of the agreements through Lacie Holdings Limited, of which he was the sole director, and CE Star Holdings Limited, of which he was the CEO. Both were Hong Kong companies that were dissolved in 2021.
Under the settlement agreement, Mohamed is also temporarily prohibited from participating in the public markets for four years, except as an investor in his own accounts.
Mohamed settled with the BCSC before a hearing in this matter was scheduled to take place. Allegations against another individual and several entities in that case are pending.
