Vancouver – A B.C. resident who made false statements to investors as part of promotional activities has paid $55,000 to the BC Securities Commission (BCSC).

Jeremy Alexei Benne raised approximately $255,000 from 23 investors between 2020 and 2023 through agreements to trade derivatives and securities on their behalf. He told the investors he could provide a 100 per cent return on their investments in one to three years using a trading strategy that he learned from third party platforms.

Instead, Benne used approximately $75,000 of the investors’ funds for personal purposes and lost most of the rest, though he did return some money to the investors.

By doing so, Benne violated the provision in B.C.’s Securities Act against making false statements to investors through promotional activities that a reasonable investor would consider important in determining whether to purchase securities.

The $55,000 that Benne has paid the BCSC, which represents the funds obtained from his misconduct, can be distributed to his victims.

In addition to the financial payment, Benne is permanently banned from participating in B.C.’s investment market, including prohibited from being a director or officer of any issuer or registrant and from becoming a registrant.  He may continue to trade through his own accounts via a registered dealer or registrant.

Benne was given credit for fully cooperating with the investigation, including providing information to investigators and admitting to the wrongdoing.
