The BC Securities Commission (BCSC) is seeking an accomplished and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the CFO serves as a trusted advisor to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director and senior leadership team and plays a critical role in shaping organizational strategy, resource allocation, financial sustainability, and enterprise risk management. The CFO oversees Financial Services, Procurement, and Facilities and helps ensure the Commission has the resources, infrastructure, and financial stewardship necessary to fulfill its public mandate.  

As a key member of the Senior Management Committee, the CFO partners with leaders across the organization to evaluate strategic initiatives, support decision-making, and balance operational priorities with long-term financial sustainability. The role is highly visible and involves regular interaction with the Audit & Risk Committee, Board stakeholders and Ministry of Finance staff.  

The Opportunity

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Providing enterprise-wide financial leadership, planning, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and internal control oversight. 
  • Advising senior leadership on strategic priorities, enterprise risks, investment decisions, and resource allocation.
  • Building productive relationships with government stakeholders and supporting public-sector accountability and reporting requirements.
  • Overseeing procurement practices and facilities operations to ensure effective service delivery, compliance, and workplace safety.
  • Leading and developing a talented team while championing process improvement, technology optimization, and organizational change.  

The Ideal Candidate 

The successful candidate will bring a combination of executive finance leadership, sound judgment, and exceptional relationship-building skills. 

Qualifications include: 

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive experience in financial reporting including senior-level accountability, including a minimum of five (5) years managing teams and influencing organizational strategy.
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and governance.
  • Experience within a Crown corporation, government organization, regulatory body, public-interest organization, or similarly complex environment is strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to regulated industries such as capital markets, financial services, asset management, insurance, pensions, credit unions, or securities regulation is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, influence without authority, and establish trusted relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • High emotional intelligence, strong communication skills, political and organizational savvy, and a collaborative leadership style.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is $225,000 to $359,000, supplemented by a competitive total rewards program.  

The starting salary for this position will be determined considering the successful candidate's relevant experience and education, salaries of other employees in the same salary range, market conditions, and other relevant factors. Starting salaries are normally below the salary band midpoint ($290,000).
