BCN 2002/02 - Membership in the Securities Law Advisory Committee [BCN - Rescinded]

Published Date: 2002-01-08
Effective Date: 2002-01-08

The Commission is seeking expressions of interest from British Columbia securities law practitioners who are interested in becoming members of the Securities Law Advisory Committee (SLAC).

We are looking for four additional members who, together with the existing members, would provide a cross-section of expertise and cover the spectrum of securities law practice in British Columbia. SLAC currently has ten members, consisting of the Vice-Chair of the Securities Law Subsection of the British Columbia branch of the Canadian Bar Association and nine other members.

The terms of existing members are staggered, with three ending on each of March 31, 2002, 2003 and 2004. In addition to the three members whose terms are scheduled to expire on March 31, 2002, a fourth member will be stepping down at that time because another existing SLAC member has joined the same law firm. Individuals selected to become members of SLAC following this search process will be appointed for a term of three years starting on April 1, 2002 and ending on March 31, 2005.

SLAC advises the Commission on legal and policy issues relating to securities regulation and provides an important link between the Commission and the securities bar for consultation on emerging or important issues.

If you are a securities law practitioner and would like to become a member of SLAC, please forward your resume to the attention of the Chair of the Commission no later than February 1, 2002.
