NIN 94/11 - Course Announcement - The Securities Program [NIN - Rescinded]

The Faculty of Business Administration, Simon Fraser University, has announced three new securities courses to be offered in the Fall of 1994 and the Spring of 1995. Two of these courses will replace the course "Organizing and Managing a Public Company". The Superintendent of Brokers is very supportive of these new educational programs for the securities industry and recommends these courses to directors, officers, brokers and others involved with issuers listed or proposing to list on the Vancouver Stock Exchange. The first course, "Corporate Governance of VSE Issuers", is intended to provide directors and officers with the basic corporate and securities knowledge to manage the affairs of an exchange issuer. The course will be an all day course from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for three consecutive days, in order to make it accessible to people outside the Lower Mainland. The course will be offered as follows:
Fall 1994 (two courses)

Thurs., Fri. & Sat. September 22 - 24, 1994

Thurs., Fri. & Sat. December 8 - 10, 1994

The September course is full and there are a limited number of spaces available for the December course.

Spring 1995

Thurs., Fri. & Sat. January 19 - 21, 1995
The second course, "Going Public on the VSE", will deal with going public, the preparation of disclosure documents and the listing and maintenance requirements of the VSE. This course will be offered on three successive Tuesdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. as follows:
Fall 1994

Tuesday Oct. 18 & 25 and November 1, 1994

There are a limited number of spaces available.

Spring 1995

Tuesday February 7, 14 & 21, 1995
A third course, "The Broker's Practice - VSE Issuers", will be directed to brokers involved in the local market and is intended to augment the course presently offered by the Canadian Securities Institute. The course will be an abbreviated version of the Corporate Governance course with additional material applicable to brokers. It will be offered on two consecutive days for four weeks from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., as follows:
Fall 1994

Wed. & Thurs. Nov. 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 1994

Spring 1995

Wed. & Thurs. Mar. 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30, 1995
Kenneth G. Hanna of Hanna, Heppell, Bell & Visosky, Corporate Finance Lawyers, is the course coordinator. The instructors will include 16 lawyers, accountants, brokers, business people and representatives of the securities regulatory agencies. The fees for the courses which are tax deductible and GST exempt, are as follows:
Corporate Governance of VSE Issuers $425

Going Public on the VSE $350

The Broker's Practice - VSE Issuers $395
Registrants who do not require the current B.C. Securities Act and Regulations will be given a $50 credit. Registration is limited to permit hands-on learning and participation. Participants may elect to take comprehensive exams on the courses. Those who successfully complete the exams receive a statement of completion.
