About the Securities Act
The Securities Act R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 418, is the statute that establishes B.C.'s securities laws and gives the BC Securities Commission its powers and duties.
On March 27, 2020, amendments to the Securities Act came into force by order in council (B.C. Reg. 45/2020), together with consequential amendments to the Securities Regulation, the Securities Rules, and numerous other instruments and documents. The order in council, which was published with BC Notice 2020/04, as well as BC notice 2020/03, describe these amendments.
On July 17, 2023, additional amendments to the Securities Act came into force by order in council (OIC 468/2023), together with a consequential amendment to the Securities Regulation. The order in council as well as BC Notice 2023/07, describe these amendments.

On June 24, 2026, the BCSC published for comment proposals to change certain fees the BCSC charges under the Securities Regulation. The comment period closes on August 25, 2026. You can find our request for comment in BC Notice 2026/06.
On June 24, 2026, the BCSC also published for comment BC Notice 2026/07 that explains changes to fees the BCSC charges under the Securities Regulation arising from the adoption of prospectus lapse dates for mutual funds and exchange traded funds, and well known seasoned issuer prospectus issuers together with other housekeeping amendments.
